About Accent Arrow
Meet Chelsea Woods
I help international professionals communicate clearly and confidently in English, so their expertise is recognized the moment they speak.
I’m Chelsea, a communication and pronunciation coach who helps professionals speak with clarity, confidence, and credibility in every setting.
For over a decade, I’ve guided hundreds of clients, from finance professionals to tech leaders, to communicate naturally in English, lead with ease, and sound as capable as they truly are. My mission is simple: to help people be heard for their ideas, not judged by their accents.
I earned my Bachelor’s degree from Oberlin College and my Master’s in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) from Northeastern Illinois University. During my graduate training, I discovered how powerfully pronunciation connects to confidence. A few intentional shifts in rhythm, stress, and presence can change not just how you sound, but how you feel when you speak.
Since then, I’ve had the privilege of providing accent and communication coaching to professionals across six continents, including clients from India, China, France, Russia, Greece, Ukraine, Mexico, and Brazil. From my office in Chicago, Illinois, I work with professionals around the world through online coaching on Zoom.
My approach blends linguistics, mindset, and real-world communication skills to help clients master both the science and the psychology of speaking clearly. Whether you’re presenting to your team, interviewing for a promotion, or leading a global call, I’ll help you speak with a voice that feels natural, confident, and fully yours.
When your communication reflects your expertise, your voice becomes an asset rather than something you have to manage.
I help professionals speak with clarity and confidence, so their ideas are heard, respected, and taken seriously.

What to expect from your Coaching Sessions:
Personalized Content.
Each student’s needs are unique. Your background, native language, area of expertise, goals, strengths, and exposure to English will determine our direction and focus. In addition to class materials targeted specifically to you, you are encouraged to bring along any material or documents from your workplace or personal life that you would like to work with. Using content that is personally meaningful to you will promote accelerated learning on a deeper level, and you will have more opportunities to practice your new skills outside of the sessions.
Partnership
We will develop a learning strategy TOGETHER. This includes setting goals, developing benchmarks, and setting a pace that makes sense for you.
Precision
We work on the General American Accent, sometimes also called the Standard American Accent, or the North American English Accent. Although this accent is not specific to any single region in North America, it is generally accepted as the “neutral” accent. Our goal is to reduce the workload on listeners and target the broadest audience possible.
Expertise and Experience
Accent Arrow’s clients come from diverse backgrounds and countries, and with a variety of goals and objectives. Together with you, we apply academic and practical expertise to develop a strategy that WORKS.
Efficiency
We use our time and practice materials effectively and efficiently to minimize the overall cost to you.
Self-Support Materials
You will receive practice materials; specifically, audio recordings of what we have practiced so that you may use them for reference outside of our coaching sessions. This helps you to develop the ability to hear yourself and gradually make corrections on your own.
Patience
We understand the challenges that accents present in the real world, and the resolve it takes to reduce or modify them.
Thoroughness
Each client will discover specific American English sounds that require focus. Just as important, we will also work on linking words together for smoother speech, expanding your intonation range, using syllable and word stress effectively, and acquiring the rhythm of spoken English.
Your Accent Questions, Answered:
-
Accent change looks different for everyone. Factors such as age, practice, motivation, your first language, and how often you use English all influence how much your accent may shift over time.
That said, it’s usually not necessary, or even desirable, to completely lose an accent. For most clients, the goal is not to sound like someone else, but to be easily understood, confident, and credible when they speak.
Accent coaching focuses on clarity, consistency, and communication impact, so your ideas come through clearly while your voice still feels natural and authentic.
Your accent is part of who you are. The goal is not to erase it, but to help your communication reflect your expertise and intention.
-
Practice, motivation, and your first language all contribute to the progress you can expect to make. Students who take time every day outside of class to practice improve much faster and more significantly.
-
Many clients choose 30-minute sessions when they want focused, efficient coaching that fits easily into a busy workday or between meetings. These sessions are ideal for targeted practice and consistent momentum.
60-minute sessions allow more time to go deeper. They’re a great choice if you want extended analysis, guided practice, and space to work through more complex communication goals in a single session.
Both options are effective; the best choice depends on your schedule, goals, and how much depth you want in each coaching session.
-
The answer is yes! If you need to work on an upcoming presentation, audition, etc., we can work on this specific material to help you gain confidence before speaking in front of others.

We meet via Zoom.
